In 2011, comic book legend Stan Lee createdChakra: The Invincible, hisfirst Indian superhero after years of brainstorming the likes of Spider-Man, the Avengers, the Incredible Hulkand many more. Following the massive success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its lesser-known properties like Guardians of the Galaxy, producers in Bollywood, the worlds largest motion picture industry, have now set their sights on a live-action film based on Chakra: The Invincible, the Hollywood Reporter writes. An animated version of Chakra aired on Indian television in 2013.
Weve set up some great meetings already with some of the most amazingly talented actors and directors in Indian cinema and I have no doubt that these individuals will help make the Chakra film a massive hit in India and around the globe, Lee said in a statement. While the comic focused on a tech genius teenager named Raju Rai that used science and mystical chakras to gain superpowers, the live-action film will reportedly feature a grown-up version of Rai as he fights his archenemy Boss Yama. Lee also revealed some concept up for the adaptation, Comic Book Movie reports, adding that production is expected to start on the film in either late-2015 or early 2016.
Chakra: The Invincible isnt the only superheromaking his big screen debut in the coming years. Despite director Edgar Wrights exit, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will welcome Paul Rudd as Ant-Man in July 2015. A film for Dr. Strange is also plannedfor 2016, the same year Captain America 3 is scheduled to arrive. Expect more Marvel news in the coming days as New York Comic Con winds down.
