Danny Says, a new documentary about the career of one of rocks famous managers, Danny Fields, is set for release September 30th. In a new teaser,Alice Cooperspoke about Fields business savvy.Danny was in the middle of all of it, almost orchestrating, he said. Those are the guys that are always in the wings, but theyre always the most effective people.
Fields is most famous for being the manager of the Ramones and Iggy and the Stooges (immortalized in the Ramones tune Danny Says). But the documentary, directed by Brendan Toller, portrays him as a punk rock figure who wore more than one hat. He was one of the first rock journalists to cover bands like the Velvet Underground and the Who, worked as a radio DJ, a photographer and even Steve Pauls chauffeur.
Cooper recalls the time Fields was working at 16magazine and crafted a spread that placed the horror rocker alongside Donny Osmond. We couldnt have been further apart, Cooper laughs. But somehow I think Danny liked that juxtaposition of the two, of the opposites.
Danny Saysreceived rave reviews after its premiere at South by Southwest in 2015.
