Forrest Gump Soundtrack to Get Red, White and Blue Triple-LP Reissue

The 12-times platinum rock & roll soundtrack to Forrest Gump, which features songs by Elvis Presley, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan and more, will be available for the first time on vinyl in North America, to mark its 20th anniversary, this fall. The albums 32 tracks will be split across three LPs, colored red, white and blue. The soundtrack has been newly remastered for vinyl, and its first pressings will be limited and hand-numbered.

The album spans music from the Fifties to the Eighties, chronicling the life of Tom Hanks Forrest Gump character in the film. Music producer Joel Sill has said that he wanted the films music to be very recognizable so people could follow the period of the movie without any anachronisms distracting them from the plot.

Forrest Gump is about time; a simple mans journey through complicated times, director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Eric Roth said in a joint statement. The coming-of-age of a generation and a country. And at the heart of the story is the music, music that lives with us, always there to remind us of the people, the places, and the events of our time.

All the music also had a key element that ties into the vinyls patriotic pressing. All the material in there is American, Sill has said of the soundtrack. Bob [Zemeckis] felt strongly about it. He felt that Forrest wouldnt buy anything but American [music].Similarly patriotic, the vinyl was pressed in the United States and will be available on November 4th (though copies are available for pre-order now).

Also marking the movies anniversary, the film Forrest Gump itself was re-released to movie theaters on IMAX screens on September 5th. A blockbuster that earned $677 million worldwide when it came out in July 1994, the movie ranks Number 31 on the list of all-time highest domestic-grossing films.
