Watch Iggy Pop Talk Stooges Ethos in Gimme Danger Trailer

The Stooges discuss the origins of their ethos and sound in the new trailer for Jim Jarmuschs documentary, Gimme Danger. The documentary premiered this month at the Toronto Film Festival and will open in theaters October 28th.

I started jumping up and down, like baboons do before they fight,Iggy Pop recalled. He also noted a connection between the bands primal, raw sound and the auto manufacturing culture in their home state of Michigan. The Ford Motor Company, they had a machine that engineered a drop, a mega-clang I thought we should get some of that in our songs, said Pop.

The members spoke about how the Stooges shared everything from their home and money to songwriting credits. They upset audiences all over the country during their first few bumbling tours, Pop said. Still, the trailer also features an old interview clip in which the rocker sums up his influence, in a statement he (and his admirers) have made over the years as a point of pride: I think I helped wipe out the Sixties.
