From a pair of hands holding Darth Vaders mangled helmet to a cadre of re-designed X-Wingsflying in formation, the new trailer for J.J. Abrams Star Wars: The Force Awakens offers fans a lot of revamped oldies-but-goodies to look forward to. But nothing captures the spirit of the latest chapter better thanthe clips final moments, when Han Solo himself proclaims to his (and our) favorite Wookiee: Chewie, were home.
The new clip arrived today to coincide with the beginning of the four-day Star Wars Celebration, taking place in Anaheim, California (the whole thing is being live streamed on the official Star Wars website).
The Force is strong in my family, one character narrates, as the clip showsa presumably hooded Luke Skywalker and R2-D2, as well as the ceremonial gifting of a lightsaber to a young Jedi. My father has it, I have it, my sister has it. You have that power, too.
The final minute of the new traileroffers a quick-moving montage packed with all sorts of intergalactic action thatprimarily features the characters played byJohn Boyega and DaisyRidley. Among the other highlights are a nefarious looking figure in a cape and chrome helmet wielding a gun, and the Millennium Falcon, once again expertly dodging enemy fire.
The new teaser followsthe first Force Awakens trailer, which arrived last November. The new film will feature cast members from the original Star Warsitrilogy, includingHarrison Ford, Carrie FisherandMark Hamill, reprising their roles alongside newcomersBoyega, Ridley, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyongo, Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18th.
