HBO Moves Up Debut Date for Carrie Fisher/Debbie Reynolds Doc

Following the recent deaths of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, HBO moved up the debut of Bright Lights, a documentary about the mother-daughter stars. The film will now premiere Saturday, January 7th at 8 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on the network.

Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, directed by Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens, explores the eccentric relationship between the two actresses living in the same Beverly Hills compound. The film, which screened at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and New York Film Festival, among others, traces both performers lives and careers using interviews, photos and vintage home movie clips.

Fisher and Reynolds died this week, just one day apart. Fisher, best known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, died Tuesday at age 60 following a massive heart attack. Reynolds, best known for her starring role in 1952s Singin in the Rain, died Wednesday at 84 following a suspected stroke.

Following the stars deaths, Stevens and Bloom expressed their shock and sadness in a statement.

Individually, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds were remarkable women, they wrote. Debbie was a consummate professional: she made performing seem effortless, but underneath her elegance was a staggering work ethic that honored her craft, and her beloved audience. Carrie was seemingly the opposite candid and loose, her wit pushed boundaries in mischievous ways. But both were supremely kind human beings, and unusually perceptive. And when either one entered a room, the energy changed. Quite simply, we were iron filings to their magnets. And never more so than when they were together.

These women were more than mother and daughter, they were an expression of exquisite humanity in all its travail and triumph, they continued. They lived their days boldly. They sung every song worth singing (often together). Carrie and Debbie loved each other profoundly. We are devastated theyre gone. And so very fortunate to have known them at all.
