When compared to Captain Americas superhuman strength, Thors all-around godliness and the Incredible Hulks metamorphosis, Hawkeyes marksman role in the Avengers amounts to little more than dude with great aim. Jeremy Renner is well aware of his characters cool factor shortcomings, so he visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to sing an ode to his superhero to ensurethat he gets a little more respect before Avengers: Age of Ultronopens in theaters May 1st.
To the tune of Ed Sheerans smash ballad Thinking Out Loud, Renners Hawkeye sings, But listen Ive got powers too, theyre pretty sweet / I promise I can do so much more than just archery. Hawkeye then rattles off all the impressive, forgotten feats he has accomplished: I kick ass at Mario Kart / This year I played an extra in Paul Blart / I can open a pickle jar / Im friggin Hawkeye / Maybe Im as super as they are.
While Hawkeyes role was marginalized to an unwilling villain in the first Avengers, director Joss Whedon told Rolling Stone that the archers screen time and storylinewill be expanded in the sequel. Theres stuff between Hawkeye and the Scarlet Witch thats some of my favorite stuff in the movie, and its there because theyre the only actors I had, Whedon said. When we started shooting in Italy, I had Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Jeremy Renner; everybody else was busy. So, Im like Okay, I guess these guys are gonna have a scene, and I can work with that.'
