Will Smith portrays a man trying to find his way back after a terrible tragedy in a new trailer for the David Frankel-directed upcoming drama Collateral Beauty.
Smiths character, Howard, is described as a brilliant New York advertising executive who isolates himself following the death of his young daughter. Though his friends try to reach him as he disconnects from the world, its letters Howard pens that begin to help him heal. Rather than turning to people, Howard copes by writing to the inanimate Time, Love and Death.
The surprise comes when the three manifest as physical entities. The emotional, tearjerker trailer shows Howard distancing himself from life as he peers into a support group, but does not venture in. Naomie Harris character asks why he was there but did not attend and he responds, Im trying to fix my mind.
Soon he reveals that he is communicating with Death (played by Helen Mirren), Love (portrayed by Keira Knightley) and Time (played by Jacob Latimore). Through them he begins to find hope, discovering that collateral beauty is the profound connection to everything.
The all-star cast also includes Kate Winslet, Edward Norton and Michael Pea.
Collateral Beauty opens in theaters on December 16th.
