Explosions, ominous clouds of dusts and violent battle royales comprise all two-and-a-half minutes of the first official trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road, the latest installment in the post-apocalyptic road-warrior series. The film stars Tom Hardy as the titular Max Rockatansky played by Mel Gibson in the previous movies and was directed by George Miller, who helmed the previous movies (and Happy Feet) and co-wrote the movies script. It also stars Charlize Theron, Zo Kravitz and Nicholas Hoult, among others.
According to the synopsis onthe trailers YouTube page, Max has become nomadic, haunted by his past, when he encounters a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a war rig driven by Therons character, Imperator Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe [played by Hugh Keays-Byrne], from whom something irreplaceable has been taken, it says. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
Miller offered a first look at the film in July during an appearance at Comic-Con. He reported at the time that production on the film began in 2012. I love chase movies; I think theyre the purest form of cinema, Miller said at the panel, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Thats where the film language started. I wanted to make one long, extended chase, and see what we could pick up about the characters along the way.
The movie is scheduled to come out on May 15th.
