The first trailer for Ben Afflecks gangster film Live by Night was unveiled on Thursday, where violence erupts within seconds and continues throughout the two-and-a-half-minute clip. The actor stars, directs and also adapted the screenplay for the forthcoming film.
Based on Dennis Lehanes book of the same name, the movie is set in the 1920s and chronicles Joe Coughlin, portrayed by Affleck, as he succumbs to a life of crime. I signed up to fight in the war. I went away a soldier, the son of a Boston police captain says. I came home an outlaw.
The plot thickens as Coughlin leaves his East Coast home behind to pursue bootlegging in Florida. Eventually he becomes an infamous gangster. We all find ourselves in lives we didnt expect, he says in the clip, which includes numerous shoot-outs, murders, funerals, a person plummeting to their death from a roof and an inevitable visit to prison.
His first foray into directing since 2012s Argo, Affleck co-produced the film with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran (The Revenant) and Jennifer Todd (Memento). Live by Night also stars Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Chris Cooper, Brendan Gleeson, Chris Messina and Elle Fanning.
I realized to be free in this life, breaking the rules meant nothing, Coughlin concludes in the action-packed, tense trailer. You had to be strong enough to make your own.
Affleck is also slated to star and direct in an upcoming Batmanmovie.Live by Night is set to premiere in theaters on January 13th, 2017.
