David Lynch to Publish Quasi-Memoir Life & Work in 2017

After decades as one of cinemasmost creative, unique and mysterious filmmakers, David Lynchwill finally give his audience a glimpse into his own life with a quasi-memoir titled Life &Work. For the book, billed as a tribute to the filmmakers inexhaustible imagination, Lynch will partner with writer Kristine McKenna, who first interviewed Lynch in the late Seventies after experiencing Eraserhead. Grand Central Publishing has secured the U.S. rights to Life &Work, which will arrive in 2017.

Theres a lot of bullshit out there about me, in books and all over the Internet, Lynch said in a statement. I want to get all the right information in one place, so if someone wants to know something, they can find it here. And I wouldnt do it with anyone other than Kristine; she and I go way back, and she gets it right.

In true Lynch fashion, even the memoir isnt what it seems: For Life &Work, McKenna sat down for over 90 interviews with the directors friends, family and collaborators, with those conversations helping to construct Lynchs life story. The filmmaker will then add his own commentary to those encounters as well as riffing on his own life, The Guardian writes.

His approach to this book is as unique as I would have hoped it to be, and I am fascinated to see where it goes, Grand Central Publishings executive editor Ben Greenberg said in a statement. The memoir/biography hybrid comes as Lynch, along with writer Mark Frost, begin work on their Twin Peaks revival series for Showtime, which presents the perfect moment to revisit some of the extraordinary highlights of his career.

While this is Lynchs first memoir, the Blue Velvet director does have some experience as an author, previously penning his meditation guide Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Creativity and Consciousness in 2007.
