Weve got good news and bad news for Star Wars fans. The bad news? It looks like youll actually have to watch football next week. The good news? You might get to see a brand-new trailer for The Force Awakens.
According to reports, a new, final spot for the film which hits theaters on December 18 is set to premiere during ESPNs Monday Night Football telecast (supposedly the trailer will air around 8 p.m. ET), with tickets to the first screenings going on sale shortly thereafter.
Football and Star Wars may seem like an unusual pairing, but seeing as ESPN is owned by Disney which bought Lucasfilm for a whopping $4 billion a few years ago the partnership makes sense. The synergy is strong with this one.
Additionally, a user on Reddit may have spilled the beans on ESPNs plan for the big reveal. According to DatESPNGUY, both the graphics and scoreboard will be Star Wars themed on Monday Night Football, and there should be some sort of intergalactic intro that will make football and Star Wars fans lose their shit. You know, if it is actually all true a spokesperson for ESPN had nocomment on the matter when contacted by Rolling Stone, and as of this writing, the official Star Wars site has no mention of the trailer or the ticket presale.
If you cant wait three more days for your Star Wars fix, youll be happy to know the movies official poster is scheduled to be revealed at some point on Sunday morning. Until then, though, may the Force be with the Eagles. We all know they need it.
