Louis C.K. will helm his first feature film in 14 years, writing, directing and starring in the new indie movie, Im a Cop, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
C.K. will star as a depressed, middle-aged volunteer cop whose mother is a decorated retired officer. After her death, C.K.s character, still feeling her influence, begrudgingly sets out to become a real police officer.
Im a Copwill be the first film C.K. has made since directing and writing the 2001 Chris Rock blaxploitation sendup, Pootie Tang. Though Pootie Tang has since become a cult favorite, the film flopped at the time and Paramount removed C.K. from the picture during post-production.
Though the comedian has taken bit roles in various films over the years including American Hustleand Woody Allens Blue Jasmine hes come to dominate both stand-up and television. His FX show Louieis currently in its fifth season, and his latest stand-up special, Louis C.K. Live From the Comedy Store, arrived on his websiteearlier this year.
While C.K. told Rolling Stone in 2011 that he would only make another movie if he was given complete autonomy Its not that I control a bunch of people, he said of how he likes to work, its just that nobody controls me a more recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter suggested the comedians stance had softened.
I dont feel like I need anyone to tell me anything with a TV show because I know exactly what Im doing, but Id be arrogant to think that I can take someones $8 million and just turn in a movie, C.K. said. Movies are different. Theres a permanency to them.
