Jennifer Lawrence will move her talents behind the lens to direct Project Delirium, a comedy based on an article about mental warfare in the Sixties, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong. The actress, who recently filmed the final installment of the mega-popular Hunger Games franchise, discussed the project in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. I have wanted to direct as long as Ive wanted to act, she said. I just dont talk about it because Id rather just do it.
Its funny, Ive wanted to direct since I was 16 and always thought I should start making steps towards that, she continued. If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldnt have been ready. Now I actually feel ready.
Lawrence previously mentioned her directorial goals backstage at the 2014 Golden Globes. My passion for directing happened at the same time it did for acting on my first movie, the 25-year-old told a group of journalists, according to Moviefone. So I would love to direct but I dont want to suck.
She added that her intention was to keep learning from other directors including David O. Russell, who collaborated with Lawrence on films like American Hustleand the upcoming Joy. Im learning from the best, fortunately, she said.
In August, Lawrence revealed that shes collaborating with comedian Amy Schumer on a screenplay for an as-yet-untitled film in which the duo will co-star as sisters.
Were almost done writing. It just flowed out of us. Weve got about 100 pages right now, Lawrence told The New York Times. Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. Its been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up. Im flying out tomorrow to see her in Chicago. Well write a little bit with her sister, Kim, who worked with Amy when she was writing Trainwreck.
