Roger Waters: The Wall Doc to Premiere at Toronto Film Fest Next Month

The Toronto International Film Festival will premiere Roger Waters: The Wall, a concert film that the former Pink Floyd singer-songwriter made on various tour dates between 2010 and 2013, when he was playing his former groups 1980 double-album in its entirety, next month. The film is credited to Waters and the tours fellow creative director, Sean Evans. Its synopsis promises an exhilaratingly visceral experience of rock showmanship as well as a platform to shine a light on the works themes of war and loss as it follows Waters on the lengthy tour.

Ever since The Wall was released, it has become one of the classic rock albums of all time, TIFF Director and CEO Piers Handling said in a statement. Its popularity continues and its message is still timely. Deeply affected by his fathers and grandfathers deaths in the two world wars, Roger Waters has crafted a plea to tear down the walls that lead to misunderstandings and wars. This powerful performance film allows Roger to explore what The Wall still means to him as he performs it in front of tens of thousands of fans, and visits more personal places that resonate with meaning on the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Waters staged his production of The Wall, which featured updated visuals to reflect current and recent wars, 219 times at arenas and stadiums worldwide. The tour as a whole grossed $458,000,000.

I cant top that tour, Waters told Rolling Stone this past November. First of all, you have to accept the fact that Im not going to live forever. You just have to accept that when you do something as enormous as that tour. The hardest thing in the world is thinking of something to do, so going and doing it is a reward in itself.

Currently, Waters is working on his first rock solo album since 1992s Amused to Death. As of this past fall, the record was 55 minutes long and would contain a theatrical element. It has characters who speak to each other, and its a quest, he said. Its about an old man and a young child trying to figure out why they are killing the children. At the time, he said he was not sure yet if he would want to tour in support of it.
