Jumanji is getting a reboot. So far, the film remake will star Dwayne The Rock Johnson who is also serving as a co-producer, and the newly announced cast members Jack Black and Kevin Hart. As The Hollywood Reporterpoints out, Johnson announced his fellow actors involvement in an Instagram poston Wednesday.
In our reimagining of the story of Jumanji, Jack brings that rare balance of cool with funny and edge with childlike joy, The Rock wrote. He added that Kevin Hart is also confirmed for the Jake Kasdan-directed film. The Jumanji Breakfast Club is coming together, myself, Jack (mfn) Black and Kevin Hart.
The film is adapted from the 1981 childrens book of the same name. Written by Chris Van Allsburg, it tells the story of two young siblings who find and play a jungle adventure board game that comes to life, unleashes a previous player who was trapped in the game along with wild animals, and much destruction ensues.
The original 1995 film starred Robin Williamsas the previously trapped player named Alan Parrish. An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of Alan Parrish will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanjiin an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud, Johnson wrote in an Instagram posthe shared earlier this week.
The original film featured three main characters. However, the new movie will have five major roles. The two remaining roles are for One bad ass girl. One semi-sorta bad ass dude. Who will they be this is gonna be fun, Johnson added.
According to The Verge, the film is expected to arrive in theaters next summer.
