Unfriended

What kind of a movie takes place entirely on one screwed-up teens computer screen? That would be Unfriended, a creep-you-out experiment in terror that damn near pulls off every trick up its cyber sleeve. Blaire (Shelley Henning) is on her Mac laptop Skype-chatting with four of her high-school bffs. Turns out its the one-year anniversary of the time their Miss Popular (but not with them) classmate Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman) took a gun and blew her face off on a video that quickly went viral.

Now a cyber intruder has cut into their chat claiming to be the ghost of Laura. And boy, is that dead girl pissed. Threats are made. Paranormal activity kicks in. And bodies start piling up on a hyper-active split screen crammed with pings to Facebook, YouTube, BitTorrent, Pandora, Wikipedia and every other digital forum the new world uses to communicate. The Web brings us all together, but were all still basically alone.

Point taken. Luckily, the movie doesnt hit its satirical targets too hard. Directed by Russian filmmaker Leo Gabriadze from a script by Nelson Greaves, Unfriended is basically Friday the 13th on a laptop, but the gimmick works like gangbusters. One request: Please Hollywood cybergods, no sequels.
