GLAAD, the world's leading LGBT media advocacy organization, held its 27th annual Media Awards on Saturday. This year's ceremony held moresignificance in light of the controversial House Bill 2 legislation in North Carolina, which many view compromises LBGT rights.
"Remember oppressive laws like the ones in North Carolina,"Robert De Nirosaid accepting the award for Excellence in Media. "Thestruggle continues and challenges us to be vigilant and aggressive in protecting all our rights." Mariah Carey, who won the Ally Award, praised marriage equality.Jennifer Lawrence, Aziz Ansari, Caitlyn Jenner, Diane Sawyer and Connie Brittonalso showed their support.
The event was hosted by Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox, who will be starring as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the upcoming Fox TV remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
