A musical adaptation of Amlie is set to debut on Broadway next April at the Walter Kerr Theater, according toVariety. The lead role of Amelie will be played by Tony Award-nominatedHamilton actress Phillipa Soo.
Amlie was originally a film released in 2001, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starred Audrey Tautou. The quirky romantic comedy, about a Parisian waitress who decides to do good deeds, earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Foreign Language Film, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography. In France,Amlie took home four Csar awards.
The Amlie musical had its world premiere at Berkeley Rep in September 2015. It starts a pre-Broadway run of dates December 4th at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles. Previews of Amlie on Broadway start March 9th. The production opens at the Kerr on April 3th.
