In the latest trailer for Hulus adaptation of Margaret Atwoods The Handmaids Tale, Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel and the rest of the star-studded cast navigate a dystopian future where women are treated as property of the state. The first three episodes of the 10 episode series will premiere at once on April 26th.
The Handmaids Tale takes place in the near-future in a totalitarian nation called Gilead, meant to be the former United States. Many women have been rendered infertile, largely due to the contaminated environment. Fertile women like Moss Offred who is separated from her husband and child serve as Handmaids who must bear children for married couples. The ominous trailer sees Offred try to remember the time before she became a Handmaid and her fight for freedom.
Atwood, who released the novel in 1985, has had high praise for the adaptation. Based on what Ive seen, its a 10, she said during a Reddit AMA. My criteria: puddle of goo on the floor [by the] end of episode 3. Gasp. Shriek. It goes farther than I did in the book
