Adam Sandlers next Netflix project, The Do-Over, will arrive May 27th and has received its first action-packed teaser.
The 30-second spot doesnt offer much in the way of details, but does pack in plenty of blockbustertropes played for laughs. Theres overzealous gun play, an outrageous car crash, womenin bikinis giggling at an ostensibly male butt and one quick exchangeof dialogbetween Sandler and his co-star, David Spade. You sure about this, tough guy? Sandler says. Fuck yes, Spade replies.
In The Do-Over, Spade and Sandler play two schlubs who fake their own deaths and start over, only to learn that the people they became are in serious trouble. Steven Brill directed the film.
The Do-Over marks the second of four films Sandler will make for Netflix, and followsThe Ridiculous 6, which arrived last December. A parody of classic Westerns, the movie sparked controversy over its portrayal of Native Americans. Nearly a dozen extras left the set, citing a script that perpetuated stereotypeslike the drunk Indian.
I talked to some of the actors on the set who were there and let them know that the intention of the movie is 100 percent to just make a funny movie, Sandler said of the controversy. Its really about American Indians being good to my character and about their family and just being good people. Theres no mocking of American Indians at all in the movie. Its a pro-Indian movie.
