Scarlett Johansson sprays bullets and uncovers buried secrets in the thrilling second trailer for Ghost in the Shell, the Hollywood remake of Mamoru Oshiis 1995 film and Masamune Shirows original manga.
The clip opens with Johannsons character, Major, and an armed crew breaking into a shadowy room where the form of a mans body dissolves like quicksand. I saw someone down there, Major said. He wasnt human.
Major only remembers fragments of her past, including her near-death during an attack and subsequent reconstruction by elite task force Section 9into a half-human/half-cyborg. Later in the trailer, shes held captive by an ominous figure, who offers a darker viewpoint: They did not save your life, he intones. They stole it.
Like the previous trailer from November, this latest clip showcases Rupert Sanders visual finesse at replicating the animes cyberpunk atmosphere. A recent plot synopsis explained the danger ahead for Section 9, which is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotics advancements in cyber technology.
Mamoru Oshii, who directed the original 1995 animated film, praised the new version, which comes out March 31st.
