Ernie Hudson, who played Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore in the classic Eighties comedy franchise, has filmed a cameo in Paul Feigs upcoming, all-female reboot. Today was one of the most fun days of my career, the actor tweeted on Saturday, linking a picture of himself with core cast members Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Great respect for Paul and this amazing cast of ladies.
Rumors circulated last week about Hudsons return to the franchise until Feig confirmed the news via Twitter. Thanks to the great @Ernie_Hudson for joining us on our last day of production, the director wrote. He is a class act and an incredibly talented and funny man.
The full extent of Hudsons cameo is unknown but his appearance marks a drastic change of heart, following an earlier dismissal of the project. In October, the actor told The Telegraph that while he supported the idea of femaleGhostbusters, he thought an all-female reboot would be a bad idea, adding, I dont think the fans want to see that.
If it has nothing to do with the other two movies, and its all-female, then why are you calling it Ghostbusters? he said. I love females. I hope that if they go that way at least theyll be funny, and if theyre not funny, at least hopefully itll be sexy.
In January, the actor pivoted on that stance, issuing the following statement via The Hollywood Reporter: Four fiercely funny, foxy, females busting ghosts phenomenal!
The reboot will also feature appearances from original Ghostbusters Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. Murray will reportedly play a supernatural debunker, while Aykroyd confirmed in July (in a since-deleted tweet)that he filmed a scene with Kristen Wiig, writing, Lady GBS are adorable, hilarious and badass. The original casts remaining Ghostbuster, Harold Ramis, died in February 2014.
Feigs film which also features Chris Hemsworth as the teams receptionistwill hit theaters July 15th, 2016.
