Christian Bale finds himself in only the most strange ways in the visually stunning trailer for the upcoming coming-of-age film Knight of Cups. He gets down on all fours as a woman guides him by a leash at a wild Hollywood party, he engages in a love experience chasing a woman around an apartment, he submerges and suspends himself in water, he even hugs Brian Dennehy. In voiceover, the actor pontificates, All those years, living the life of someone I didnt even know.
The film, which was written and directed by Terrence Malick (Badlands, The Thin Red Line) and is due out March 4th, focuses on a screenwriter named Rick (Bale) who feels trapped and depressed by Hollywood and navigates a midlife crisis by trying to find new experiences. The tarot card the Knight of Cups typically signals that the person who receives it should open themselves up to new passions.
Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman will co-star in the picture, which sports a star-studded cast. Imogen Poots, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Nick Offerman and Ben Kingsley, among others, will all make appearances.
