Sam Smith Confirms Spectre Bond Theme Song Writings on the Wall

Hours after Sam Smithnot-so-subtly hintedthat he recorded the theme for the upcoming James Bond film Spectre, the singer confirmed that he will perform the latest 007 opening credits song. Titled Writings on the Wall, the song was co-written by Smith and his Stay With Me collaborator Jimmy Napes, with Disclosure also tweetingthat they provided additional production on the track.

This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible lineup of some of my biggest musical inspirations, Smith tweeted Tuesday morning. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.

Smith, who adamantly denied recording the Spectre song in July, also posted a pre-order linkto purchase his Bond theme as a CD or vinyl single. Both formats are backed by an instrumental version of the track. Writings on the Wall is set to debut on September 25th.

Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sams extraordinary vocal performance, Writings on the Wall will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time,Spectre producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement.

On Monday, Smith all-but-confirmedhe was the newest Bond theme singer when he tweeted a black-and-white photo of his hand donning a ring with the infamous SPECTRE emblem, a logo that dates back to 1962s Dr. No. Its been almost as long since a solo British male artist has performed the Bond theme, dating back to Tom Jones title song for 1965s Thunderball. Chris Cornell was the last male solo artist to record a Bond theme, performing You Know My Name for 2006s Casino Royale.
