St. Vincent to Make Directorial Debut in Female-Helmed Horror Film

St. Vincents Annie Clark will make her directorial debut with a segment in XX, an upcoming anthology horror film composed offour shorts starring and helmed entirely by women.

Clark will film her portion of the moviethis spring, though no details were offered regarding the cast or plot. Clark did, however, co-write her segment with burgeoning genre star Roxanne Benjamin, who produced2014s Faults andthe V/H/S films, and made her directorial debut inthe 2015 anthology film, Southbound.

Along with Clark, XX will feature segments from Karyn Kusama (Jennifers Body, on Flux, Girlfight), Jennifer Lynch (Surveillance, Chained, episodes of The Walking Dead) and Jovanka Vuckovic (the 2013 shortThe Guest, and a former editor of the horror culture magazine, Rue Morgue).

A release date for XX has yet to be announced. Itwill arrive via Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures.

As for Clark, XX marks her first major project since she wrappedup her extensive Digital Witness tour in support of her 2014 album,St. Vincent, last fall. While St. Vincent has long been a critical darling, her self-titled fourth album served as a breakthrough of sorts, ultimately winning the 2015 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, beating efforts by Arcade Fire and Jack White.

The question is always Alternative to what?' Clark told Rolling Stone after the win. But I think they added this award in response to the Seattle bands of the early-Nineties and thats a great legacy to follow.
