Nike Confirms Work on Back to the Future 2 Self-Tying Shoe

Flying cars, the 19th installment of the Jaws franchise and a Cubs World Series victory aside, Back to the Future Part Two managed to get a few things right about the year 2015: Video messaging, hand-less video games, the ability to watch multiple TV stations at once one California company is even working on a hoverboard. Now, famed Nike designer Tinker Hatfield has said that he and his team are hoping to update their Nike MAGs the tricked out shoe he designed for Michael J. Foxs character Marty McFly with self-tying laces.

AsNice Kicks reports, Hatfield told a crowd at the Agenda Emerge conference that he hopes to release the Nike MAG with Power Laces this year. However, he didnt offer an exact date and said that there were still 11 and two-thirds months left in 2015. Proving this wasnt a hoax, Nice Kicksmanaged to pull the patent papers Nike filed, which give a sense of exactly how the Power Lacing system would work.

Nike released a version of the shoe sans Power Laces in 2011 called the Air MAG. The limited run of 1500 shoes were auctioned online, with proceeds directly benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which raises money for Parkinsons Disease Research. British rapper, and sneaker head,Tinie Tempah scored a pair for a whopping $37,500.

Along with the celebrations Back to the Future Part Two, this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the original 1985 movie. A number of tributes are already in the works, includingscreenings of the film around the world accompanied by a live performance of Alan Silvestris Academy Award-nominated score. The first performance will take place in May in Lucerne, Switzerland, and will also include 15 minutes of new music that Silvestri wrote specifically for the engagements.

More so, Back to the Futures original screenwriters Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale have teamed with British director Jamie Lloyd to helpwrite the book for a musical adaptation that will play on Londons West End this year. Silvestri will also compose the music, and Grammy-winning songwriter Glen Ballard (Alanis Morrissette, Michael Jackson) will write the lyrics.
