Ethan Hawke stars as legendary jazz trumpeter Chet Baker in Robert Budreaus Born to Be Blue. The biopic centers around the time in the late Sixties when hed fallen into a self-destructive spiral of heroin addiction and depression. Rolling Stone has the exclusive trailer to debut, which begins with his performance alongside Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie at Birdland and is interspersed with black-and-white vignettes from his heyday, including his early records on the West Coast and New York jazz clubs.
The only person the jazz legend has in his life after falling on hard times is Elaine (Carmen Ejogo), an aspiring actress with whom he has a passionate romance, and who tries to get Chet off dope as he relearns how to play his trumpet after an accident nearly paralyzes him and stages a comeback. Baker eventually fell to his death from his second-story room at Hotel Prins Hendrik in Amsterdam in 1988. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and will be in theaters March 25th.
