Mike Judge Plots Idiocracy 10th Anniversary Screenings

Mike Judges satirical cult classic Idiocracy is returning to select theaters on October 4th to mark the films 10th anniversary. Judge, the films director/co-writer, will appear in-person alongside star Maya Rudolph and other cast and crew members at Santa Monicas Aero Theatre for a screening and post-movie talk.

Concurrent screenings will take place at Alamo Drafthouse and Art House Convergence theaters across the U.S., with the roundtable discussion live-streamed to those audiences. Thirty-two theaters have been announced, and the complete list will updated at the Drafthouse website.

Home viewers are encouraged to participate by starting the film at exactly 7 p.m. PST and logging onto the post-film discussion via Alamo Drafthouse Facebook Live at 8:25 p.m. PST. Questions for the event will be selected from the live audience in Santa Monica along with remote audiences using the hashtag #IdiocracyToday.

The Alamo Drafhouses collectible gallery Mondo will be selling a licensed Idiocracy shirt for the occasion via the Mondo Tees website. A portion of proceeds from merchandise and participating screenings will benefit local League of Women Voters chapters.

Idiocracy, a box office flop upon its initial release, has grown into a sleeper classic over the past decade. Many viewers have praised and lamented the prescience of its unorthodox dystopian plot, in which an anti-intellectual America is led by a sociopathic pro-wrestler-turned-president.

The film recently made Rolling Stones list of 20 Movies That Predicted Donald Trumps Rise.

From Citizen Kane to Idiocracy, here are movies that predicted (or help explain) the political rise of President-elect Donald Trump.
